NEW HOPE RESOURCE CENTER OF WINSTON SALEM AND GOODWILL INDUSTRIES PARTNER TO LAUNCH SKILLED TRADES CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.

Winston-Salem, NC – September 19, 2025 – The New Hope Resource Center of Winston-Salem (NHRC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Goodwill Industries to expand workforce development opportunities through 12-week certification programs in skilled trades.
This groundbreaking collaboration will provide Hope Achievers—participants enrolled through Fresh Hope Workforce Development Initiative—with industry-recognized credentials, career coaching, and job placement support designed to strengthen economic mobility and open doors to long-term success.
Goodwill Industries will schedule skilled trades classes in coordination with NHRC, with each class enrolling eight participants. The programs will include scholarships for 40 participants in the 2025–2026 program year, with a dramatic expansion to 300 participants in 2026–2027. Scholarships will cover tuition, training materials, and certification costs, ensuring equitable access to opportunity.
All Hope Achievers are required to have a GED or high school equivalency diploma prior to entering the program. NHRC will provide preparatory support for individuals seeking to obtain their GED before enrollment.
Kaisha McDermott-Carter, Forsyth County District Director, emphasized the impact of the partnership: "This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing workforce gaps. By expanding access to skilled trade certifications and removing financial barriers, we are opening doors of opportunity for individuals and families across Forsyth County."

Winston Salem, NC – September 18, 2025. The New Hope Resource Center of Winston Salem, Inc. is honored to announce the endorsement and partnership of Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill in support of the Fresh Hope Workforce Development Initiative.
As part of this collaboration, the District Attorney’s Office will refer participants with non-violent offenses who are ready for a second chance into the Fresh Start program. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to providing alternatives to incarceration and ensuring that individuals receive the necessary resources, training, and mentorship to rebuild their lives and re-enter the community with stability and purpose.
“The Fresh Hope Workforce Development Initiative is exactly the type of proactive, community-driven program that reduces recidivism and strengthens families,” said District Attorney Jim O’Neill. “By giving non-violent offenders a second chance through job training and support, we are not only changing individual lives but also making Winston Salem a safer and stronger community.”
The Fresh Hope Workforce Development Initiative is designed to provide participants—many of whom face barriers such as prior justice involvement, unemployment, or housing insecurity—with practical workforce training, life skills development, and wraparound support services. The program’s holistic approach ensures participants not only secure employment but also gain the stability necessary to thrive outside the justice system.

In addition, church ministries and programs are not designed with this age group in mind. Young adults are criticized for wanting community, style, and social venues and opt not to attend church.
